Druk Path Trek

6 Days/5 Nights



The Druk Path Trek is one of Bhutan’s most scenic treks, connecting Paro and Thimphu through high-altitude lakes, ancient monasteries, and stunning Himalayan views.

Day 1: Paro to Jele Dzong (3,490m) – 8km, 4-5 hours

  • Morning:
    • Start from Ta Dzong (Paro) with a gradual climb through forests of pine and rhododendron.
  • Afternoon:
    • Arrive at Jele Dzong, a small fortress overlooking the Paro Valley.
  • Evening:
    • Camp near Jele Dzong and enjoy a stunning sunset.

Day 2: Jele Dzong to Jangchulakha (3,770m) – 10km, 4-5 hours

  • Morning:
    • Hike through thick forests of juniper and rhododendron, enjoying occasional views of Mount Jomolhari (7,326m).
  • Afternoon:
    • Arrive at Jangchulakha, a yak-herding area.
  • Evening:
    • Camp at Jangchulakha, with panoramic views of the Himalayas.

Day 3: Jangchulakha to Jimilangtsho (3,870m) – 11km, 5-6 hours

  • Morning:
    • Trek along a ridge with incredible views of snow-capped peaks.
  • Afternoon:
    • Reach Jimilangtsho Lake, famous for its large trout fish.
  • Evening:
    • Camp near the lake and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere.

Day 4: Jimilangtsho to Simkotra Tsho (4,110m) – 11km, 5-6 hours

  • Morning:
    • Hike past Janetso Lake, where yak herders often set up camp.
  • Afternoon:
    • Arrive at Simkotra Tsho, the highest campsite of the trek.
  • Evening:
    • Enjoy a quiet evening by the lake under a star-filled sky.

Day 5: Simkotra Tsho to Phajoding (3,750m) – 10km, 5 hours

  • Morning:
    • Gradual ascent to the highest point of the trek (~4,200m), followed by a descent.
    • Clear weather offers views of Gangkhar Puensum (7,570m), the world’s highest unclimbed peak.
  • Afternoon:
    • Reach Phajoding Monastery, an important Buddhist meditation center.
  • Evening:
    • Camp near the monastery with stunning views of Thimphu Valley.

Day 6: Phajoding to Thimphu (2,320m) – 5km, 3 hours

  • Morning:
    • Descend through blue pine forests to Thimphu.
  • Afternoon:
    • Celebrate the completion of the trek with a hot stone bath and local cuisine.
